Bits and pieces
Note to self: make sure NOT to crash, at all costs.
The bike is still in the process of getting fixed. I couldn’t bend back the foot peg bracket, so I had to buy a new set of pegs. $350. The fairing stay and steering damper came together with some careful hammering in the bench vice. The front forks looked a little tweaked when I put it all back together, so I took the front end off and took it down to Rob at Evolution Suspension. He measured everything up and they came up fine, so it looks like the forks just moved a bit in the triples. Should be all ok once I bolt it back up. Rob also noticed the seals were going bad on the forks – yet another thing to fix.
The to-do list as it stands at the moment:
- Replace fluid in forks, replace seals
- Clean out and re-grease the head bearings
- Swap in new EVO detent star. This should kill the frequent false neutrals at Infineon, I hope.
- Check and possibly replace clutch plates
- See if there’s a flywheel on the other side, and if so, put in the stator off ebay and link up the charging system again. (No more total-loss for me, thank you).
The biological fix-it list is going well too. The doctor said my knee’s fine, just a little inflamed. Immediately snowboarding, wakeboarding, running and cycling apparently wasn’t a good idea. After draining some fluid and wrapping the knee, it’s been much better. I just have to avoid going stir crazy without getting significant exercise for a few days.
