New and improved ride
My little list of todos grew as I worked, but I’m pretty happy about the result. Some of the highlights include:
- Refreshed front forks by Aftershocks. I surrendered to professional help after struggling with the fork seals for a day.
- Removed the keyed ignition, and wired the ignition to the kill switch. No key, less weight. Much better.
- Epoxied the plastics back together, sanded and re-painted them black. It’s not very pretty, but these plastics have been crashed so many times, they’re not worthy of a decent paintjob.
- Improved the carburetion. The main jets were too big, and mis-matching at that. They’re smaller now, and I’ve synced the carbs a bit better. The throttle response is MUCH better now. It was super-jumpy at lower RPMs previously.
- Put in the new shift star. The shifts seem a little snappier on my 2 block street ride, but the proof will come in tomorrow’s trackday. Hopefully it’ll be the end of false neutrals in the bus stop at Infineon.
A few pics of the efforts:

Suspended from the garage ceiling so I could pull the front end.

Behind the clutch, where the shift star lives.

Patched and sanded plastics, waiting for the spray can.

Fixed, improved, and ready for some racing this weekend.
The bike is packed in the trailer, and I’m overdue for getting to sleep. I need to be up at 5:30 and at the track by 7:30. Tomorrow’s trackday is critical for getting the bike set up right. Lots of things have changed, and there will be some kinks to iron out.
